A quick fix for problems with Windows Update - browndider1991

Quick housework note: Hey, you've found the inexperient Hassle-Free Microcomputer! Well done. Actually, what you've found is the new address for Plague-Free PC, significant IT's time to update your bookmarker. Here's the Web address for the blog, which I desire you'll preserve to visit daily: https://www.pcworld.com/column/hassle-at large-pc.

Now, then, on to business…

For the ultimo couple weeks I've detected that whenever I close up my PC, Windows installs updates. Or at any rate appears to install them.

Typically this happens only erst in a while, not every time. So I patterned Windows Update to see which updates were in the queue. Past I shut down, rebooted, and checked it again: convinced enough, those unvaried two updates were quieten there — they hadn't been installed at all. Or perhaps they had, but something inside Windows wasn't recognizing that fact.

Unfortunately, these kinds of problems aren't uncommon. And they aren't limited to Windows repeatedly offering the Saame update; I've also had letters from readers World Health Organization get error messages after Windows tries to update itself.

This can be a tricky issue to lick, but here's a good station to begin: Microsoft's Windows Update Fix-IT. This automated tool will skim your Windows Update shape and repair any problems it finds, resolve any incorrect data locations, and re-register necessary services.

All you act up is click the Run Now push, then follow the onscreen prompts. (Depending on what browser you use you bet it's configured, you may want to manually run over the Mend-it after downloading it.)

With any luck, the tool will get Windows Update jetting properly again. If not, you can recover a few additional troubleshooting options on Microsoft's knowledge-base pageboy, "Windows Update or Microsoft Update repeatedly offers the same update."

Have you had problems getting Windows Update to work properly? If and then, were you able to find a fix?
